Beauty Battles #6: The Liquid Foundation

Hi Everyone,

How are you liking the beauty battles series so far? I can’t believe this is the sixth week running. Im hoping to get to ten. If you have any suggestions or requests for products that I can feature for the rest of the series, please let me know.

On to today’s business, Liquid Foundation is one makeup item I honestly can not do without. The right shade and formula can leave you looking flawless, if you don’t have it, you can fake it, oh yeah!

Mac Select SPF15

This has been my trusty foundation for years. I am in the shade NC50 which is a perfect match for my skin. It comes in a glass bottle which is not the best as it is heavy and can very easily break. It doesn’t come with a pump but you can buy one from Mac like I did. It is a water based foundation (a little too watery) hence it gives a very natural and dewy finish. It blends easily and provides medium coverage which is adequate for me when used with concealer. A great plus is that it contains SPF15.

I used to have Normal/Combination skin and this foundation worked well for me lasting about 3 hours before any oils started to surface. Recently, a certain product changed my skin type to Combination/Oily (rant blog post for another another day) and this foundation doesn’t work for me anymore. My nose starts to get oily within 30 minutes and even when I use a blot powder, one hour at the most. I have also found that the product moves around a lot so if you have Combination/Oily or Oily skin, you might need to stay away from this one.

I think this product has been discontinued by MAC but I paid about Β£23 for the foundation and Β£3 for a pump, grrr!

 Revlon Colorstay Foundation (Combination/Oily)

These foundations have been around for quite a while, but I have been a Mac Foundation Stan until now. Seeing as my skin-type changed, I decided to give other brands a chance and bought the Revlon Colorstay in the shade Caramel without expecting much from it.

Like the Mac one, it also comes in a glass bottle and no pump. What is up with these cosmetic brands not including pumps with their foundations. It makes it so difficult to dispense the right amount of product and is generally unhygienic. The foundation also gets exposed to air when there is no pump making it oxidise quickly, no bueno.

This is a slightly thicker fluid so it provides medium-full coverage. It has a distinct scent though which caught me off guard the first time but I think I’m now used to it. It blends easily into the skin and has a natural finish. Revlon claims that it wears for 16 hours, I haven’t had it on for that long but it manages to keep my face matte for at least 5 hours, brilliant aye? It also happens to stay put even when I get a little sweaty thanks to the insane weather around these parts. There is a Normal/Dry skin variant available if you fall on the other side of the skin type fence.

Get Revlon Colorstay for N2350 here or at any Casabella Store. In the UK it is around Β£12.00 from Boots or Superdrug.

Mac Select SPF blended in a little too much, hopefully it’s still visible

Revlon Colorstay blended in a little less for visibility

Final Verdict

Select SPF15

Length of Wear

Revlon Colourstay ticks all the right boxes for me, great coverage, keeps me oil free for hours, is universal i.e it caters to different skin types and it is pocket friendly. It’s consistency is also less watery than the Select SPF but it still maintains a natural finish. That’s our winner for today!

Have any of you lovelies tried Revlon Colourstay foundation? Please let me know what you think of it.

Peace and Love,

Have you used/tried/heard of Fashion Fair's Perfect Finish Souffle? Its A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!! I have a terrible combination of oily skin and spotty face so I have used any and every kind of foundation looking for something to cover up the spots without leaving my face dripping with oil. MAC is a scam, fake MaryKay has flooded the market (the original one initially worked for me). Till three months ago when my friend introduced me to Fashion fair. I then went to Debenhams to find out my exact shade/colour bought one and since then I've been in spots covered, non dripping face heaven. Its not heavy, stays on all day and you can use it alone without your powder. Just apply with foundation brush or a sponge or best still the good old fingers, blend in well and you are good to go. For the really hot days, after sweat, I dab my face to clean the sweat and just use a powder brush round my face and my flawless finish is back :D………

PS: I'm not a fashion fair brand ambassador, just a happy girl who found something that works…

I discovered Revlon Colorstay foundation a couple of earlier this year while looking for a liquid foundation with more coverage. Honestly, I cannot praise the Foundation enough. I get great coverage and the Foundation stays in place the whole day till when I wash it off. I Caramel is too light for me and Mahogany is too dark so i have to mix the two.

Besides having to experiment a little to find the perfect shade for my skin tone, I'd give this Foundation a 6 out of 5 lol!

I got the Revlon Colorstay (and a whole lot of sleek products, thanks to you)and I absolutely love it, stays on the whole day and my face hardly goes oily when I have it on which is so unusual for me!
