My 5-Day Juice Cleanse

Hi Guys,

The Me typing up this post is a Me that has not had a meal in 5 days. Yes 5 whole days have gone by and I haven’t eaten any solid food. Can you tell how proud I am of myself????

I have been on what is termed a “Juice Cleanse” which is basically drinking only fresh fruit juices for a period of time.

Why I went on the cleanse

  • Two years ago, I did the master cleanse for 10 days and I survived so I needed to know if i still had such will power in me. 
  • I had been really bad in the weeks leading to the cleanse i.e just eating without really thinking so I needed to reset
  • I needed to give my digestive system a break, i mean it has worked non-stop for two years
  • I wanted to rid my body of toxins and impurities i.e detox
  • I was at my plateau weight and needed a little shift to keep me going to my goal weight

I had been pondering over all these thoughts when I found Simple Green Juices randomly on Instagram, talk about God-sent! They delivered me 6 fresh juices everyday for the 5-day period. 

So here’s my blow by blow account of the 5 days, enjoy!

Day 1

So day 1 was surprisingly easier than I expected. I breezed through the day hardly even thinking about food. Sometimes I felt a little light-headed but I think it was really a mental thing. I spent more than half the day peeing though but that’s okay, it’s an added benefit 🙂

My energy levels seemed surprisingly ok enough when I had to work out later at night. I did T25 upper focus and I managed to pull through.

Went to bed feeling slightly tired, let’s see what tomorrow is like.

Cleanse Intense- Kale, Pumpkin Leaf, Lettuce, Cucumber, Apple, Pear, Celery. I drank 3 of this a day.
Taste verdict- not as bad as it looks, refreshing

Day 2 and 3

Day 2 and 3 were kind of harder, I began to miss the usual tradition of having something to eat at staggered times. I missed the tradition, not the actual food which is proof that we don’t actually need to eat half of what we actually eat. 

The light-headedness was gone though, i think it was because I started taking dietary supplements like a friend advised me too. Please if you are on a juice fast, don’t forget to get some dietary supplements to keep your immunity up. I got the Well Woman Inner Cleanse and i seriously think it helped me get through the day. 

At night on day 2, I did some yoga from Jillian Michaels 30-day shred and I was able to keep up, residual energy me thinks! I wasn’t able to workout on day 3 though, no such strength. 

Funky Beet- Apple, Beetroot, Carrot, Orange,Celery. I drank one of this a day
Taste verdict- no bueno! I struggled to drink these ones 🙁 

Day 4

Day 4 was a Saturday so you can imagine how hard it was for me. The other days, I was at work so I hardly had much time to think of food. I was preoccupied with meeting my deadlines. However on Day 4, Saturday, I struggled. All the tantalizing scents coming out of my mum’s kitchen for breakfast, lunch and dinner tormented me to no end. I felt really hungry and a little depressed. Depressed because I was hungry and bored, but I didn’t go out because I didn’t get tempted. I also felt really nauseated sometime during the day but I fixed that with some sugar-free gum. Yes, gum was a big part of the 5 day journey, it nhelped me cope. 

I was also really bored of the taste of the juices by now so I only managed to drink 4 of them. I went to bed really moody 🙁

Pick Me Up- Carrots, Orange, Apple, Pineapple, Lemon, Ginger. I drank two of this a day
Taste verdict- refreshing and delicious, the best of the bunch

Day 5

Day 5 was the HARDEST of all days. I had a family engagement that I could not afford to miss, so I had no choice but to attend. I was surrounded by delicious foods, drinks and desserts of all kind, I even had to help serve guests…imagine how torturous that was!!!

At a point, I got really tempted to have  pepper soup at least but I managed to kill the temptation and carry on the fight. It was already the lats day so I thought I might as well carry on. I only managed to drink two juices on this day though, I was well and truly DONE!! 

How do I feel after the cleanse?

  • Happy
  • Clean
  • Lighter
  • Stronger
  • In-Control
  • Proud

These are just a few of the feelings that I have the day afar my 5-day juice cleanse. I also feel like my skin is shinier and yes! I did lose weight!! 3 kg to be precise, not bad at all! 

In the days following the cleanse, I will slowly ease back into food, eating mainly fruits and vegetables before I start to introduce carbs little at a time. Will I do a juice cleanse again? Absolutely yes! I love how it makes me feel.

    I love this. I am the queen of diets in a bit to loose every ounce of extra whatever I have on. I also tend to have days when I skip meals without thinking and I know that is sooooo bad but it's now an unconscious thing. Maybe this juice diet is what I need.
    And seriously 'Simply Green Juices'? They must be Godsent, lol.

    Late comment here, but I think the price is quite high. I've done a 5 day juice cleanse for N20k in Lagos. Only difference is I picked up the juices in 2/3 day increments.

    You're right about feeling ANNOYED (or even depressed) by Day 3, lol.
