Work Work Work Work Work Work
This was basically the theme song of this week and will be for the next one month as I work on closing out this project. Tight deadlines, long hours, late nights, early mornings, y’all know the drill. Sometime this week I felt so weak and drained I had to take my laptop and go sit in one of the phone booths. For about 3 hours I was between working and taking several 10 mins power naps. I’m so happy my boss did not run into me having a nap because that would have been proper awkward..LOL…But really I felt like I could not go on, I really needed to shut my eyes for a bit.
|Ended up leaving at 11:30 pm on this day|

I have been drinking more coffee with the intent to keep me going for longer hours and I don’t really know if it works. Is there any scientific proof that coffee makes you alert or is it just in our heads?
I went running in the park with Audra this week and it was a really good workout. I enjoyed every bit of it and I plan to try to do it at least 3 times a week. I managed to only do it once this week though because I found it so hard to get up early in the morning because of my long hours. I’ll try again next week 🙂 This fit fam struggle is never ending…

Food + Social Stuff
This was a fun week food wise! I am always on the lookout for good, inexpensive lunch places and I was really happy when I discovered the Deli at City Super (one of the big supermarket chains here). They have a MASSIVE selection of hot and cold foods that it is kind of overwhelming making a choice especially for me, i tend to be indecisive. Finally decided to have the ribs and mash which was decent, I wasn’t exactly expecting gourmet food from the supermarket so it worked. Only downside was that I forgot to ask for gravy with the mash…
My birthday is on Monday so this weekend was packed full of pre-birthday celebrations for me. I got invited for a birthday dinner at a Spanish restaurant called The Optimist on Friday night and the food was super delicious. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures but they bought out several meat and fish dishes that we all shared family style. After the dinner we went to the China Club for drinks which an exclusive member’s only club. I wasn’t really feeling it because they played Techno through out (a lot of the clubs here do) and ain’t nobody gat time fa that! I managed to convince the group to move somewhere else though so we went to another club which had way better music, the kind black people can dance to you know?
On Saturday, I met up with Eli and two of her other friends for brunch at this cute French cafe called Tartine. We sat on the terrace enjoying the sun until it started to rain bucketloads so we had to sit inside. The food was delicious though, I had the Eggs Royale.
After brunch we booked a private room for a foot massage and it was the best way to spend one hour on a Saturday evening. Imagine lying down on a super comfy, reclinable chair, with plush pillows, sipping fresh green tea while your feet are being massaged by a reflexology expert..BLISS! Foot massages are a very Hong Kong thing to do so put that on your list for when you visit. We went to a foot spa called Ten Foot Tall but I learnt that Happy Foot (the place near my house where I got a pedicure some weeks back) also gives awesome massages at slightly cheaper prices. Ten Foot Tall was expensive, I paid about 450HKD which is about 65 USD but it was totally worth every penny. The lady only massaged my feet/legs but my whole body felt so relaxed I even dozed a little in the chair!
Later at night, my friend Jennifer (who I met in week 1) hosted me to dinner at her lovely home. She lives in Hong Kong with her husband and two kids and it felt really nice to enjoy a family experience. It made me miss my own home in Lagos, my husband and my whole family really but we had a great time. We cooked together, ate, talked endlessly whilst getting tipsy on wine!
I literally had to beg her to let me go at 1:30 am because I was feeling like an intruder even though she kept assuring me it was totally cool. My Nigerian hone training told me that being in someone’s home at way past midnight is bad behaviour so I bolted out of there, lol.
Someone commented on my last post asking how I have managed to still keep my braids looking neat at over 8 weeks and it was funny because I had actually made plans to get the edges re-done this weekend. It was starting to look untidy even though it’s not really obvious in pictures. When I went dragon boating a few weeks back one of the people i met was a girl from Togo called Hyacintha. We have kind of kept in touch since then and in the course of conversation she mentioned she provides hairdressing services on the side of her day job. She came to my house to redo the hair on Sunday and she got my braids looking fresh again in time for the birthdayyyy…. 🙂 If you are ever in HK or know someone here who might need to get braids, a weave, relaxers etc, my girl Hyacintha will hook you up good! Her Instagram page with all contact details here.
#SideNote if you are good at doing hair you can never go hungry anywhere you live outside Africa most especially Asia. People with such skills are in very high demand and black women pay premium for the services. Hyacintha is basically booked every weekend but she had to do some James Bond moves to make herself available to me for a few hours. We talked about how much money she makes and it got me wishing I knew how to braid and stuff so I can be making that extra paper while I’m out here…

Oh, I got two new additions to my family this week 🙂 the cutest fish in my own little aquarium. I have still not been able to settle on a name for them even though you guys have all been so awesome giving me recommendations on Snapchat & Instagram. I think the more recommendations I get the more confused I am so for now, they are nameless, lol. I’ve only had them for a few days and I’m dedicated to keeping them happy and making sure they thrive. Cichlids and gold fish in general have short lifespans because they can be quite complicated to care for without killing them. I do not want to kill these cuties, wish me luck!
I also put out a new video this week showing how to use Korean sheet masks and their benefits to the skin. Check it out here!
And thus went week 9…
Peace & Love,
