Review | Taos Cosmetics Liquid Velvetines

Taos Cosmetics is a Nigerian brand that’s been on the scene since 2014 but I think 2016 saw them rebranding and releasing a new range of products including liquid lipsticks, highlighters and a neutral eyeshadow palette.

I am very grateful to have received five of their liquid velvetines shades and I have been trying them over the last two weeks to be able to share my thoughts on the brand with you guys.

I received five shades, three of which are new shades to the collection…

Tunis Baby– New! A nude with brown undertones; will suit most skin tones. This is my best one of the bunch, such an easy, everyday wearable shade.

I wore @taos_inc liquid lipstick in Tunis Baby 💋🌟😊 #Latergram #FOTD #Taos #LiquidLipstick

Lulua– New! A deep violet (similar to Mac Rebel); will suit most skin tones

Tripoli– New! A light purple with pink undertones; will suit medium to fair skin tones better

Jozi– A light brown nude with grey undertones; will suit fair skin tones but medium to deep can make it work with a brown lipliner

Saturdays are for brunching with your girls 👯🍴🍾 I used the @taos_inc Neutral Palette on my eyes and the Jozi liquid lipstick on my lips 🤗 👄 #FOTD #NeutralBeat #EverydayLook #Taos #BuyNigerian

Gold Coast– A dark brown shade with copper undertones (similar to Mac Antique Velvet); will suit most skin tones

What’s Great About Them?

Staying Power: The first thing I noticed about the Taos liquid velvetines is that they stick on like glue! If you follow me on snapchat, you will see that I did a little “wet wipe” test on these where I tried to clean the swatches off with a wipe with ZERO luck! I tried to wash it off with soap and water with still no luck until I used BioDerma, a makeup remover. So if you are looking for a lipstick that will stay on all day with little to no transfer then you would love the Taos ones.

Smell: They smell amazing! Each one has a lovely vanilla scent which makes them a pleasure to apply.

Price: These sell for N3000 each, very well suited to Nigeria’s present economic situation….for real! I recently purchased one of Kylie’s lip kits for double this amount and I was not pleased….Affordable makeup is always a welcome choice.

What’s Not So Great?

Formular: While the formula is great given that it lasts really long, I found that a few of the shades got a little tacky once dry. Now this isn’t a problem unique to this brand, a lot of the big international brands have this issue as well I’m not sure why this is but if the tackiness problem can be fixed, these lipsticks will be 5-star!

Swatches

Clockwise- Gold Coast, Tunis Baby, Lulua, Triopli, Jozi

    Jozi!
This is not a shade I'd ordinarily go for, but I love how you rocked it!

Thanks hun! Jozi is a tough one to pull off but when done right it's gorgy 🙂

Cheers for the review Yewande! Tackiness aside, can you compare the texture of these to another brand's for reference? Is it closer to a drier texture like Limecrime, mid range like Jeffree Starr/Dose of Colors or a comfortable finish like Zaron? Thank you x
