My husband and I celebrated our two year wedding anniversary this past weekend! Can you believe it’s been two years already? God is good!
We were very blessed to be offered complimentary stay at the Intercontinental to celebrate our anniversary and we had a fabulous time! When the economy won’t permit you to take a vacation, take a staycation!
We checked in to the hotel on Sunday afternoon and were very warmly greeted by the Concierge. Check-in was speedy and in less than 15 minutes we were ushered to our room which was a delightful, cosy cocoon we were going to call home for the next two days.

On Sunday night we went for DJ Exclusive’s All White party from the hotel and the central location of the hotel made it really convenient and cheap to get an Uber back and forth.
Monday morning we woke up ravenous and headed downstairs to the Ekaabo restaurant where the breakfast buffet was laid out…
We were warmly greeted and seated by this lovely woman dressed in Ankara print…All the waiters on hand at the buffet were also very friendly and helpful. It was a lovely atmosphere.
There was a wide selection of breakfast options both Continental and Nigerian but I went for a classic English. I am a lover of scrambled eggs and as simple as it sounds, not many people can actually make good scrambled eggs. These were perfect..as was everything else on the plate.
After breakfast, we lazied around in the room for a few hours before going to the gym to get a workout session in. Intercontinental’s gym is well equipped and spacious not one of those makeshift gyms you find at some hotels. I think it can actually stand alone as a fully functional gym, they even have personal trainers on hand…
After our workout, our sore muscles were in need of some pampering. We went to the Spa and got a couple’s Swedish massage for 1 hour. You know your massage is amazing when you actually fall asleep on the bed! The masseuse definitely knew what she was doing…
The rest of Monday was spent outside of the hotel on the hunt for Sallah meat in the homes of several friends…S/O to the Muslims who steady come thru with the ram meat men!
We used the gym again on Tuesday and after that, decided to relax at the roof top pool. Stunning!! It reminded me very much of the infinity pool in Singapore with the views of the city all around it. We agreed that we will definitely be frequenting the Intercon pool in the near future. It’s amazing….
After we used the pool, it was time to check out of the hotel and we seriously wished that we could stay one extra night. Everything was so perfect, it actually felt like we got on a plane and went somewhere nice for a few days.
They treated us to lunch at Ekaabo for our anniversary and at this time we were brimming with happiness over the excellent hospitality shown to us by everyone at Intercontinental.
My husband ordered the salmon and I had the lamb chops…both meals were delicious! I’m not just saying that because it was free, trust me, the chef, whoever he is, is top notch!
All in all, we had an amazing 3 days and 2 nights at the Intercontinental hotel. My husband and I both agreed that we had as much fun as we would have had, had we decided to take a quick trip anywhere. I definitely recommend it if you are looking for a getaway for you and your partner that does not require you shelling out money for air tickets. The Intercontinental hotel is a hidden gem within the chaos that is Lagos!
I have stayed in several hotels in Lagos and this has been my best one so far! I guess they don’t call themselves “Nigeria’s first 5 star hotel” for nothing!
Peace & Love,
